Well week 2 of the preseason is here and with that for many franchises and the Tennessee titans comes joint practices. This week the titans traveled to Tampa bay to join the defending world champion buccaneers in some practices before their preseason game Saturday the 21st. Really when 2 teams combine in the preseason the main story that tends to come out is a round or two of some fighting.

This years story of a fight comes in the form of titans second year man Chris Jackson getting in a fight with Tampa’s Antonio Brown. Brown who’s no stranger to negative press was successful in landing a real clean looking punch on Jackson after stripping him of his helmet. That wasn’t all of the fighting that took place it seems there were numerous scuffles throughout day 2 of practice which is of course pretty common in joint sessions. Throughout the week titans fans have been waiting to see what stars AJ Brown, Julio Jones and Derrick Henry will bring to practice and once again the answer was a familiar one, not much. Brown and Jones were held out entirely throughout the two sessions while Henry had very limited action. AJ Brown has had an undisclosed injury keeping him sidelined as head coach Mike Vrable has remained mum on the issue by just stating he is “unavailable” Julio Jones has been sidelined after his injury earlier this month and by the looks of things will be sidelined from practice and preseason games entirely until the season starts. Derrick Henry’s participation in practices seems to be a set game plan for optimizing his workload in preparation for the season as the titans by all counts seem ready to give the back a heavy workload once again this year. Hey if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Overall the 2 days of practice was a bit of Jekyll and Hyde trip. While day one was all good for the titans, day two seemed to have poor performances throughout. Vrable even stating it “just sucked”. Attitudes remained hopeful as the team prepares to take on the Bucs the 21st. When the week ended the titans were able to show up when it came to playing the game. The defense coming up with some takeaways most notably a Briean Boddy-Calhoun fumble recovery which he took it back to the house for six. The titans also added two interceptions for a successful night that kept the defending champs out of the end zone. Offensively, as predicted the main stars remained on the sideline as others played to make their way up the depth chart. No

one making a bigger case to move up than Mehki Sargent who had 16 carries for 78 yards and a 5 yard touchdown reception. The receivers all showed up in a collaborative effort which should be a good sign for titans fans because when Julio Jones and AJ Brown are in the lineup whoever is that 3 spot should have plenty of wide open routes. Most relieving thing to see for me personally was Sam Ficken showed up and went 2/2 on field goals with a 58 yard attempt being the longest of the two. After a year of inconsistent field goal kicking was nice to see some optimism out of that position tonight.
All things being said week two of the preseason was a success for the titans and fans should be happy with what they’ve seen thus far.
